Lending Club Goes Public

Lending Club rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) this morning - becoming a public company under the ticker symbol "LC." We are ecstatic for the Lending Club team and founder and CEO Renaud Laplanche. They have reinvented traditional banking as we know it - and given borrowers and lenders a more efficient consumer-credit marketplace. Canvas General Partner and longtime Lending Club board member, Rebecca Lynn, was at the NYSE to celebrate with the team. She led the Series B investment in Lending Club in Q1 2009 when it had less than $50 million in loan originations. Today, it has well over $6 billion in loans issued. Thanks to Lending Club, the $3 trillion consumer-credit market will never be the same. Congratulations Renaud and Lending Club!

Our New "Thesis" Tab

Take a gander at the new "Thesis" tab on the Canvas Web site. Why is it important? Because it explains how we are "thesis investors" and why entrepreneurs should care. Our thesis areas, or investment themes, today include: fintech, marketplaces, digital health, API economy, and more.

New Faces

Meet our newest "campus liaisons" at Stanford, Irem Mertol and Saam Motamedi. We've had a campus-liaison program for years at Stanford and Berkeley, including such alumn as Steve Loughlin and Adam Evans, co-founders of RelateIQ; Nir Blumberg, now in M&A at Facebook; Mediha Abdulhay, now in M&A at Google, and Guido Appenzeller, co-founder of both Voltage Security and Big Switch. Campus liaisons work with Canvas partners while still in school; the majority of them pursue computer science or MBA degrees. They typically work for part of their school year to help us keep a pulse on two of the most vibrant campuses in the nation for startup formation and recruiting. Be sure to meet the entire Canvas Team.
